November 2, 2023 – Message from the President

Dear Colleagues,

The last few weeks of October were filled with on-campus celebrations, events, concerts, legislative meetings, and a couple of big wins for our football team, including a nationally televised win against our in-state rival, Georgia State, making us bowl eligible.  Truly an exciting time for our Eagle Nation!

One of the institution’s most important events in recent history was held on Friday, Oct. 20, when Georgia Southern University proudly announced the launch of its first-ever comprehensive capital campaign, Together We Soar: The Campaign for Georgia Southern University.

This transformative initiative will further elevate the University’s impact on students, faculty, research, athletics, and the communities it serves.  Now publicly launched, Together We Soar: The Campaign for Georgia Southern University aims to raise $125 million by 2026. To date, more than $86 million has already been secured. Aligning our philanthropic efforts to our institutional strategic goals is, and will be, the catalyst to ensure our success.  We invite all our supporters, alumni and the community to join this transformative journey. With collective support, there’s no limit to how high Georgia Southern can soar.

To that end, I want to highlight the continued success of our outstanding faculty and our “Soaring to R1” flight plan. Most recently, the Georgia Southern University Soldier Performance and Readiness program received a $1.5 million, two-year grant from the Department of Defense’s U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command. The grant will expand Georgia’s Southern research and programming capacity in injury prevention techniques that ensure force readiness for the Army. Dr. Nancy Henderson and her colleagues in the  Waters College of Health Professions help lead this large-scale research initiative and program that is having a direct impact on the readiness of our armed forces.

This is indeed an exciting time for Georgia Southern…enrollment growth, record fundraising, record research activity all impacting and informing the growth of a vibrant region.  Hail Southern and let’s keep it going!
