Annual Georgia Legal Food Frenzy : April 20th to May 1st
May 4th Update: The 2020 Georgia Legal Food Frenzy has officially ended. The Office of Legal Affairs would like to say thank you for all donations. As of April 30th, Georgia Southern Legal Eagles raised $961 towards our $1500 goal and have helped America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia food bank to exceed this year’s fundraising goal by over $5,000. Donations are still being tallied. Please stay tuned for final totals to be reported out by the end of May.
For the 5th year, the Georgia Southern Office of Legal Affairs will participate in the Georgia Legal Food Frenzy, a food and fund drive competition in April among law firms, legal organizations and corporate, in-house counsel to see who can have the biggest impact on hunger! It is an effort that began seven years ago in partnership with the Office of the AG, the YLD, and the Georgia Food Bank Association to benefit Georgia’s food banks.
We would like to encourage you to join our efforts that will help to solve an important issue: HUNGER IN SOUTHEAST GEORGIA!
As you may know, there is an increased need for monetary donations during this trying time as the food banks respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the pandemic, the food banks have made the decision to alter the structure of the Legal Food Frenzy this year, limiting participation in the competition to fundraising monetary donations only. The food banks will not be collecting food donations or encouraging volunteering from Legal Food Frenzy teams in order to lighten the administrative burden on food bank staff and operations while they meet the increased needs of the community during this time, as well as respect the State’s stay-at-home order.
This increased need will persist in the coming months, throughout the course of Legal Food Frenzy, and we encourage you to remember this as you consider donating during the scheduled time of this food drive: April 20th through May 1st. For every $1 donated during Legal Food Frenzy, the food banks, on average, can distribute $8 worth of groceries into the community. Everything we raise will stay LOCAL and benefit the Food Bank that serves our community.
Like Eagles do, the Office of Legal Affairs aims high with an expectation to exceed our goal of $1500 in donations for America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia food bank.
