The Office of Multicultural Affairs offers presentations that enhance diversity competencies, which can contribute to an inclusive and equitable society. The presentations are facilitated by our office’s professional staff and we offer a variety of presentation options that are available upon request to classes, student organizations, and academic and professional departments.
Office of Multicultural Affairs Overview (30 min)
Not sure what the Multicultural Affairs office does? This presentation provides an overview of OMA programs and services, including descriptions of our departmental student organizations.
General Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (1.5 – 2 hrs)
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are common terms, but what do they really mean? This presentation defines the broad scope of diversity and discusses how a comprehensive understanding of diversity helps foster environments where everyone feels valued, safe, and welcome. Additionally, this presentation teaches how to develop cultural and diversity competencies, discusses microaggressions, equality and equity, and ends with a discussion on how diversity competencies impact engagement with others.
Gender Identity, Sexual Orientation, and Romantic Orientation (1 hr)
This presentation is designed to help participants understand the differences between identities and orientations, while also learning how to interact more comfortably and respectfully with people of different identities and orientations.
Social Justice (1 hr)
What is social justice? How is it achieved? What is my role in social justice? This presentation is designed to answer these questions and provide participants with strategies to promote an environment that is socially just for all.
Bias and Stereotypes (1 hr)
Throughout this presentation, participants will reflect on ways in which their own biases can influence interaction with others. Additionally, we provide information and activities that debunk myths that form negative stereotypes.
Ableism (1 hr)
Respect for physical and mental abilities is important to equitable treatment and value of all people. This presentation explores how to be respectful of people’s ability-related needs, including those that are visible and invisible.

If you have a more focused request or an interest in something that is not listed, please provide those details in your request, and we will work to create a presentation for your needs. For this option, please make your request a minimum of four weeks prior to your desired presentation date.
Requests must be received three weeks prior to the desired date of presentation to allow reasonable time for scheduling and preparation.
We are able to combine some topics into one presentation. However, depending on the breadth of material requested, a series of training presentations may be more appropriate for your group. Once your request is submitted, series recommendations will be discussed, as needed.
