Leslie Harris, Director

Leslie Harris is the Director for Student Support Services. She provides academic and social support to those students who identify as first-generation, low-income, and/or are students with disabilities. Leslie received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Illinois College in 2014 and her Master of Science in College Student Personnel Administration from Illinois State University in 2016. Leslie joined TRiO’s Student Support Services program at Illinois College, which assisted her with her status as a first-generation, low-income college student. Leslie is originally from Chicago Heights, IL.

Penny Hendrix, Success Coach

Penny Hendrix is a Success Coach for Student Support Services. She coaches students who identifies as a first-generation student, low-income student, or as a student with a disability through their collegiate experience at Georgia Southern University. Penny received her Bachelor of Science in Education with a minor in Special Education at Georgia Southern. She has worked for 20 years in the area of Disability and Student Support Services.

Janet O’Brien, Success Coach

Janet O’Brien is a Success Coach for Student Support Services. She helps students who identify as first-generation, income-eligible, and/or are students with a disability. Janet received her Bachelor of Science in Math Education and Master of Education in Mathematics at Georgia Southern. She has worked for over 30 years teaching and supporting students at Georgia Southern.

Sabrina Stewart, Administrative Assistant

Sabrina Stewart is the Administrative Assistant for Student Support Services. She processes applications and conducts intake meetings. She is also the supervisor for the student workers within SSS. Sabrina received her Bachelor’s of Interdisciplinary Studies from Georgia Southern, concentrating in Psychology, Criminal Justice and a minor in Writing. Sabrina is a first-generation college student originally from Vermont. 

Graduate Assistant

Graduate Assistant

Akalah Favors is the Graduate Assistant for Student Support Service. She will be assisting the department with facilitating life and college skills workshops and as a resource to students. She will also be planning and helping with different events such as grad prep workshops, Trio Talk and Trio Snack chat, etc. Akalah received her Bachelor’s in science from Georgia Southern. Her major was sociology, and women’s gender sexuality studies was her minor. She is now pressuring her masters in counseling at Georgia Southern University. Akalah is a first-generation college student originally from Decatur, GA. Akalah was a part of the Trio program herself as an undergrad and looked forward to working with the students at Georgia Southern.
